WEST SANDHILLS DISTRICT DIRECTOR
MARGARET AXSON
I retired in January 2012 after working for over thirty years at the Darla Moore School of Business as a Database Administrator at the University of South Carolina. I finally found the time to get involved with groups that I could not devote time to while working.
I became fully immersed with altar guilds, flower guild, baptism committee, Vestry, Wednesday night supper crew and most recently the Lunch and Learn kitchen crew at St. Johns
Episcopal Church in Columbia.
I finally had time to record our family tree on Ancestry and thus was able to complete my application for the DAR. I now serve as secretary and registrar for the David Hopkins Chapter NSDAR.
I had time to take day trips around the state, Mepkin Abbey’s Crèche festival in November is now an annual trip.
I had time to dig in the yard and find the joy when my efforts worked. On the flip side I have learned what did not work as well. Planting in pots is my latest method as I can move them to shadier spots or give them more sun.
Along the way, I became a member of the Columbia Garden Club. I have used my technical skills to make it easier to produce our yearbook as well as our award applications.
Stepping in to serve as the West Sandhills District Director is quite an honor. I’m new to a larger leadership role and plan to focus on getting to know a whole new group of gardening friends.
WEST SANDHILLS DISTRICT ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
STEPHANIE CORDUM

I am honored to have this opportunity to serve under my friend, Margaret Axson, as West Sandhills Assistant Director. I am a graduate of Baylor University, and The University of South Carolina. I was an educator for ten years before having two wonderful sons. I spent fifteen years in private retail fashion, retiring 9 years ago to enjoy gardening, tennis, pickleball, and lake life with my husband. I am a member of the Richland / Lexington Disabilities and Special Needs Board, a Master Gardner, a member of The Columbia Garden Club, where I serve on multiple committees and just completed my year as the President. I am an active member at Village Church in Blythewood, where my brother is pastor. I am very excited to meet each of you, and I look forward to a wonderful two years.
