South Carolina State Christmas Tree

 THE SC STATE CHRISTMAS TREE

The State Christmas Tree project is sponsored and jointly funded by the Columbia Garden Club and the Garden Club of South Carolina.  A large, freshly-cut tree is selected and placed in front of the South Carolina State House in November of each year. Garden club members of both groups meet early one morning on the State House grounds to unpack ornaments and beautifully trim the State Christmas Tree. The day is memorable and fun-filled, enhancing everyone's holiday spirit.

The annual Governor's Carolighting Ceremony celebrates the lighting of the tree the following Sunday evening featuring local musicians, dignitaries, choirs, members of the clergy, and our Governor delivering his special Christmas Message. The program is televised  and visitors attend from across South Carolina to view the tree during the holiday season. At the conclusion of the Ceremony, the Governor and First Lady officially light the State Christmas Tree for everyone in South Carolina to enjoy throughout the holiday season.

The Garden Club of South Carolina Committee for State Christmas Tree extends special gratitude to our many partners for donating their time, talent, and gifts every year to create a memorable holiday event for the people of the State of South Carolina.

Funds from the Five Star donations help offset the cost of the purchase of the tree and the maintenance of the lights and ornaments.
